Earlier this year, Samsung launched its popular Galaxy S20 series of devices to an eager South African fan base. Fast forward to October and we’re welcoming another device to the Galaxy S20 lineup. This time a Fan Edition device that offers a number of the Galaxy S20 features, a slightly lower price point.
At around R8,000 cheaper than its fully-specced cousins (Recommended Retail Price: R17,999), the Galaxy S20 FE sports some of the features from the flagship range in a slightly different phone body with, most notably, a different camera cluster on the rear.
For mobile gamers though, the 120Hz screen refresh rate will offer a much better gaming experience on those titles that support higher refresh rates.
The only sacrifice on the screen front is a slightly lower screen resolution compared to the high-end devices. The Galaxy S20 FE features a very respectable 6.5-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels.
Although the Galaxy S20 is also IP68 rated, it does not have a glass back like the premium models, instead this one features a plastic back that is matt coated. The Galaxy S20 FE also features a different glass front, this one has Gorilla Glass 3 versus Gorilla Glass 6 as featured on the Galaxy S20 Ultra.
“We are constantly speaking to our fans and taking feedback, and we heard what they loved the most about our Galaxy S20 series, what features they used most often and what they would want to see in a new smartphone,” said Justin Hume, Director: Integrated Mobility at Samsung South Africa. “The S20 FE is an extension of the Galaxy S20 family and is the start of a new way to bring meaningful innovation to even more people to let them do the things they love with the best of Galaxy.”
According to Samsung, pre-orders is now open through mobile operators. Check out the full feature set here: [Samsung Galaxy S20 FE].
